I was always excited to see him, but this time he didn’t arrive. An hour past and no one arrived. I finally heard my father was involved in a motorbike accident. I immediately headed to the hospital. I was told he wouldn’t survive - I sat with him and cried. He was not responsive but I knew he could hear me. I said to my dad “I will always listen to mum. I will look after mum and I will complete my studying and always make you proud. Four hours later my father passed away. I was very close to him. It was a terrible heart breaking time filled with uncertainty and sadness for my mother and I. Now a single mum, I can’t imagine how she felt - I watched her fight every day, fight to control her emotions, fight to give us a good life, and fight to guide me in the right direction. Life and my mother have taught me some hard lessons - understanding, resilience and freedom to live my life knowing that it can be taken away at any minute”.
