There’s no better advertisement for a place than someone who has travelled half way around the world to be here. While location wasn’t the initial reason for Gloucester-born sales associate Nick Potente’s relocation, the appeal of the Clarence Valley has been the cherry on top.

The cake, as such, was finding the love of his life.

Then London-based commercial painter, Nick met his future wife in the traditional setting for romance — the English pub.

After a smitten 18 months in the UK together, Nick relocated to Australia and to his wife’s hometown of Maclean where they are happily raising a family.

For a while after arriving in the Clarence, Nick continued to ply his trade until his body and brain told him enough was enough.

With a little nerve and the reassurance of a mate already in the real estate industry, the affable Englishman set off on his new career path when a position came up with LJ Hooker Iluka team in June 2019 and he hasn’t looked back.

Since then Nick has been helping to fulfil the dreams of countless others who have also fallen in love — with Iluka — the soon-to-be licensed real estate agent constantly soaking up the abundant sense of community the place offers.

“I remember the first time I arrived in Australia and was walking down the street and this fellow said ‘How ya going?’ I looked at him like ‘Why are you talking to me?’

“In England there’s this general distrust between people but I quickly learned that Australians are a lot more friendly and genuine when you meet them. Team that with the lifestyle on offer here in the Clarence and Iluka, and you just can’t wish for a better place to be.”
